Update! Looks like I made the deadline a bit too close :) I’m extending it to the 30th. C’mon people, let’s see some more entries!

So, it’s come about that time of year again when I’m feeling a bit guilty for not paying enough attention to Hemingway. So, it’s come time to fix that. I’m going to make a big push for another release of Hemingway here soon, and it’s about time I asked for some help. You see, currently there are only two styles for Hemingway: white and black. I want more.

What’s a Hemingway style?

A Hemingway style is a stylesheet and a set of images. No HTML manipulation allowed, only CSS and images. To make your own style, go ahead and download Hemingway, install it on your machine and then take a look at the /wp-content/themes/hemingway/styles/ directory to see how the white style is defined.

First you must create a stylesheet called style_name.css. After that, create a folder called style_name/ and put your images in it. If all goes right, when you check out the Presentation→Hemingway Options tab in the Wordpress admin, there should be a new value in the styles drop-down with your new style in it. Now just hack away with your own CSS and you’ve got your own style!

What do I get for it?

I’m not one to be (too) selfish, so I’m putting up a trio of geeky t-shirts to win for the best style. You’ll receive some authentic Avalonstar Apparell, Firey goodness and even a few pixels on a shirt to make it an even trio.

If I receive a large number of responses that I decide to include in Hemingway, I may up the prize package — but as for now, that’s the minimum that will be going out.

Deadlines? Due Dates?

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a slacker… so, I’m going to make this a pretty relaxed contest. All entries will be due by September 15th30th, 2006. I will be the sole judge in this contest, and announce the winners no more than one month after all submissions have been received. Hopefully I’ll have a lot faster turnaround than that, but I’d like to give myself time.

    is there any way you could make a version of this that is just sample html pages instead of wordpress ready? I do not run wordpress and therefore cannot participate in this contest. But I am really interested in participating. Thanks so much Kyle.

    Kyle, I was editing the css for the set of pages you gave me, but they appear to be different than the screenshots of hemingway you have on the page you dedicated to hemingway. For example no search bar and no images. So I was wondering if i could have a little more up to date stylesheet if it wouldnt be to much trouble. Sorry for being so demanding.

    Yes, the new version of Hemingway will be 100% localized (though, it’ll take someone to sit down and write out the translations).
