2006 / January 29th/ Officially Announcing Poetry with meaning

Poetry with meaning

So, I know it took me a while to get to this, but here it is: Poetry with meaning officially launches today, January 30th, 2006. Go ahead, drop by read some poetry, rhyme some words and register if you like so you can start posting and discussing poetry too.

PWM signifies a large turning point in my little online world. It’s been the brainchild of Bob and mine’s for nearly two years now. Well, it’s finally a reality, up and running and gaining quite a following (without any marketing!). Tomorrow the press releases go out, the advertising kicks in, and the site kicks into full gear.

PWM also marks my first full-scale, public-facing Ruby on Rails project, so be gentle. It’s been a great experience learning the framework and wonderful to finally have something to show for it. The best thing is, I feel like I’m in a great position of expanding on the site and adding on features — which there will plenty more as time progresses. I had my share of fun with the rhyming tool, as that was a bit of actual programming, and it was fun. Try it out, I had nothing but fun with it :)

So, there we have it. If you want to hear more about PWM, or keep track of its development, go ahead and sign up on our mailing list (plus, if you give me your address I’ll send you some swanky Poetry with meaning stickers for free).

Though I’m not the best at writing poetry, I must say the website looks really nice Kyle. Congrats on rolling out your first full-scale RoR project. I wish you all the best and keep up the good work.

Thank you very much Yannick :) I had a lot of fun with the rhymer. It’s based on an American pronouncing dictionary, so it’s not just using some computer-based algorhythm. Very cool stuff, actually.

    You are welcome Kyle.

That’s pretty interesting. Do you plan to write a post detailing some more of what went into building PWM with RoR?

Signed up!!! I am really liking the concept! I love poetry, and I write quite a bit myself (however I always think mine sucks). Hopefully I’ll come out of that shell and post a poem one of these days. Nevertheless, thanks for an awesome resource, Keep up the good work!

Oh, and the site looks great – did you guys use a CMS or build it from the ground up? Either way, it’s perfect.

I built it from the ground up :)

There’s going to be plenty of cool features coming out soon, too. I’m glad you enjoy it Anthony — I can assure Bob and I are just as pumped :)

Good stuff. I’m very jealous. I’ve been hammering away at RoR for the last 4 months and love it. I’ll release something oneday…soon.

Nice app. Run nicely and works well. The rhyme part is very cool. Nice work.
