2006 / September 6th/ September Randoms
Oh yes, it’s time again for that wonderful time of the year when I decide to spew out a stream of consciousness because I just can’t get it out of my head.
- I’ve been seriously considering getting a new car lately, and after research and some shopping around I’ve become absolutely disgusted with the entire industry. Between bullshit fees and cheesy salesman, I can’t take it. In other news, I think I might wait until I graduate so I can get a GTI or one of those smokin’ MAZDASPEED 3’s (check them out, the specs are ridiculous… 250HP in a 4-cyl?) without having to worry about having a full-time job, etc.
- DOM, BOM, AJAX, JSON, AHAH, XML, RPC, SOAP, J2EE, PHP. Can I get a few more acronyms? Who the hell cares — I’m in charge of building the coolest shit ever at work, and the best part is I’ll be able to brag about it (I never get to talk about my work). More on this come November.
- On that same subject, you’re going to hear a lot of Javascript from me in the near future.
- After watching it a few times, I’ve decided that I really, really like Match Point. I’m not entirely sure why, but I love this movie.
- At the expense of my online-empire, I’ve been having an absolute blast this summer. Words cannot express how much I love being in this city at this time of year with the friends I have now. Don’t listen to that bullshit when people tell you “this is the best time of your life, so cherish it while it lasts” — it only gets better.
- Did I mention work has been awesome?
- Except for the fact that my Art Director (direct manger) decided to part ways with our company. I understand his motives and wish him all the best, but damn — I’m going to miss having what I can only describe as the coolest boss ever.
- It’s funny how interconnected all of your friends become. You may meet people in completely different situations, but eventually they all come back to the same place. Out of the small group of people I consider my best friends, half of them have come from two high schools that are a couple miles apart from each other. Weird shit. I’m only discovering this after knowing these people 4 years.
- Recently I was informed that our CEO reads my blog. A bit of a strange feeling as others have mentioned.
- Rick is an absolute rockstar. Someone give this man a
raisecouple hundred dollars. Props to Kevin too, who has become somewhat of a blogging machine as of late. - Not to leave out anyone, Sam Stephenson has been pumping out updates to Prototype that blow my mind. 1.5 (which hit RC1 today) is a wonder to work with. The DOM traversing stuff alone is enough to give mad props, let alone method chaining, Element/Form/Event mixins and the absolutely ridiculous String & Template additions.
- I’ve decided that I’ll be sticking with this whole Web-dev thing after I graduate. I’ve fallen in love with the web, love what I do, and get paid well to do it… why go for something else? I like engineering too, but I had to make a decision at some point.
- Speaking of which, I’ll be graduating this Spring (with a BS in Civil Engineering) and such will enter that whole full-time job market thing. I’d appreciate any advice anyone has on this subject. I don’t mean to sound egotistical (ah hell, it’s unavoidable), but I’ve got a pretty awesome resume at this point, and I’m damn good at what I do. But what steps to take next… when to start looking for job offers, how much I should expect, etc. I’m a complete idiot when it comes to these things, so advice is always welcome.
That’s about all I have time for now folks… have fun and enjoy the rest of the summer while it lasts!
