2006 / May 1st/ Status Update (Reboots, ideas, and world domination follow)
So it’s May 1st. Normally, I’d point you over to the reboot site, but it seems Adam’s had the server take an extended vacation in Honolulu today.
Total Spore
Anyways, big news from my camp is that I’m releasing Total Spore. I’ve really had a lot of fun making this site and I’ll continue to have to have fun with it in the coming months as we get nearer to the expected Q3 ‘06 release. If you’ve got any Spore related news, be sure it throw it my way. I’m hoping this will be a fun little project for me where I don’t have to sit down and edit my posts for a couple of hours before hitting publish (Like some of my sites), and eventually I’ll be bringing people on to help me keep up to date with Spore related news once the hype around the game really kicks in. Be sure and visit the forum and have fun there!
Adregate
If you actually visit my homepage like a few people I know you’ll notice my Take a Trip… section now features a couple different sites. Adregate to be explicit. I’ve already introduced Adregate, but I’m giving it a premier spot on my homepage for now. It’s gonna be huge guys, seriously. On that note if you know anyone that might find Adregate useful be sure to forward them to me. I’m looking for a lot of opinions, a lot of complaints of current programs, and ideas anyone might have. The (rough) plan is to start using Adregate in less than a month, and tweak from our user’s opinions until it’s right.
On other news, you can always follow along with what’s happening on the Adregate blog. Josh has been the only one posting so far, but I’ve got a lot of notes on the development side of things to throw on there, too.
Ze Macs are coming, ze macs are coming!
For the past year and a half I’ve been dying at home. At work, I’ve got a killer PC/Mac duo that keeps me highly entertained productive. Unfortunately, at home all I’ve got is a monster of a PC. Don’t get me wrong, I actually do like a lot of things about PCs, but I also love Macs. And I love laptops. So, today I finally ordered my very own MacbookPro. Should be getting here in about a week, so I’ll be having lots of fun soon enough. It also means the posting frequency will go up around here with a lot more quality articles. I love writing outside, and while I’m on campus. But I hate paper.
Reboots elsewhere
I’ll be updating this as I go along and see sites that I like (I mean really like).
Bryan Veloso: http://avalonstar.com
Goddamnit, looks like Bryan spilled his talent on the internet again. Bryan comes back in black with a stunning redesign that resembles a lot of the ideas I had with Warpspire’s latest design (separating out categories into supercategories, like my “Consumables” and “Journal” section). Only he does it right. He once again proves that image selection isn’t just for corporate whores.
My favorite part: The comments.
Matt Brett: http://mattbrett.com
That pink is hot shit. Brave color choice that worked out beautifully. The layout is familiar, while still very refreshing and “different” from his previous site. Love it, love it.
My favorite part: The header.
Kyle Jones: http://justkyle.com
Holy mother of color, batman! Just a wonderful explosion of color & patterns here. It’s not too often you find sites that can pull off a heavily saturated red theme like this. Plus, best Hemingway customization ever? I think so.
My favorite part: The background pattern on the top half of the page.
Motherload: http://momadvice.com
This layout has great details. I love the attention that’s gone into the backpages to make the site feel whole. The typography is great, and the colors and patterns compliment the site very well. Nicely done.
My favorite part: The logo
Viget: http://viget.com
This site is CLEAN. Great saturation, great choice of type, and great imagery. This is easily one of my favorite sites of the reboot so far. I’m always a sucker for blue.
My favorite part: The name!! Vigets for everyone!

don’t be afraid, it’s just text

Subscribed to Total Spore as I’m really looking forward to that game. And congratulations on that MBP - I’m getting mine in about 2 months. :D
What do you mean you’re not rebooting?? Hehe, not that it’s needed, but you’ve gotta love a redesign meme!

Geez, you’ve been busy lately!
Totalspore looks great. Frankly I’ve never heard of the game before you mentioned it last time, but it looks interesting.

I’ll definitely be keeping tabs on Total Spore as well. After watching that video I’ve been hooked. That may be the game that actually makes it onto my system and stays there.
Let us know how the MBP works out for you. Hopefully it will be a rev E or something and you won’t have to deal with the issues others have had to deal with. ;^)

Excuse my ignorance, and lack of time, but what is the effect you use to replace your header text with images? Is it SIFR, or something else? I really love it on Total Spore.
