2005 / October 11th/ Step back for a minute

I pull up to my house and park my car outside - that damn tree is spewing some kind of unknown white substance that leaves my car a mess of sticky, dirt and god knows what. I walk in, put down my backpack and look at the clock - it’s almost time to start homework already. Damn labs. I start thinking, is this really worth it? I mean at what point is it just worth it to take a break, save up some money and just not work for a quarter? This whole work-school-work day to day thing gets a little out of hand.

I walk into the kitchen and notice the roomies have bought some spaghetti materials and are well on their way to dinner. The girlfriends are over, and everyone is in a good mood. After a few minutes of decompression, and the usual checking on school-related crap I join in and the day starts to get better.

Soon I realize that I just spent the day stressed out - but stressed out building one of the most trafficked pages on the internet. And a amazing design to boot. I realize how amazing it is that at twenty years old, with no real “formal” education I’m building as “big” of a site as anyone could image. I realize how many people would give their left toe to do what I just did all day.

I realize that I’m attending an amazing school, and I really do enjoy (most of) my classes. I enjoy the atmosphere, the culture, the lifestyle of a college student. I also realize that I’m somehow debt-free at the age of 20; a rare feat amoung my generation.

I eat dinner, and walk back to my room in a good mood. There the lab waits… but something’s different. I notice that last night I really did get a lot of work done. Hell, most of the lab is done… now all I have to do is finish up some Engineering Economics, which is pretty cake.

I open up Dreamweaver and stare at the strange symbols for a few minutes before I realize what I was doing. In a couple of minutes the new homepage of Warpspire shows living data and all seems well. I close up Dreamweaver for a little bit and finish the lab.

Back to school at last it would seem. Summer, where have you gone?
