2004 / November 1st/ The Drum Report is open for business

In the midst of my busy schedule I’ve managed to group together a few authors and launch something that will (hopefully) change the drumming world.

I give you, The Drum Report. A bit more than a blog. A bit less than an ezine. A new experience.

The Drum Report has been an idea of mine for many years. I’ve seen the massive popularity of musicians interacting on the internet through forums like MusicianForums but there’s always the question of quality. Most of the posts are useless and mind-numbing. So then I thought of blogs - but I needed a bit more help. I recruited a few drummers I’ve known for a while to write articles now and then (although anyone is free to submit articles to the site) so I’ve come up with something kind of like A List Apart except for drummers.

The site will have a semi-regular publishing schedule featuring reviews, articles, lessons - whatever interests drummers. I included reviews in this site because a) I wanted to make some money off of this and b) to have a place for reviews from real drummers. Not the guys at MD who seem to think every single new piece of drum equipment is simply outstanding. It’ll be a place for drummers to read reviews of products from people who have actually used them and not just tried them out for a few days.

As far as the design goes, I won’t lie - I copied the styles from Scrivs but never copied actual lines of code. More or less the general concept - KISS. Maybe if I find a way to keep it simple and make it a bit more snazzy I might spice the site up. Until then it’s going on super-fast download speeds and clean-mean XHTML+CSS. Not to say that the code’s perfect. There’s lots of problems with it. Lots. I’ll be cleaning up the code now and then, but for now I need to continue adding content - because that’s what drives sites. You might also notice I’ve got a pretty heavily modded version of WordPress going on. Working through this project has given me a new insight to how great a piece of software WordPress really is. I love it.

So in conclusion, I’m hoping this thing takes off. If it becomes successful I might just turn it into a network of sites, all devoted to respective instruments. I love blogging and the direction it’s taking the internet. I just want a piece of it before it’s too late.

So, check it out and tell me your opinion and then spread the word. The Drum Report will be big. Very big.

I think it is a fatastic idea Kyle. The design, despite being really simple, is very nice I think. Even though I am no drummer, I will certainly pay visits every once in a while to see how things are going over there.

too wierd… I’m working on a website for The Drum Circuit as I read your post. I started this website early in the year - one of my first ever websites - but am only getting back to it now since I’m just now getting product information from Steve - the owner - to add to the shopping cart. He keeps pretty busy over there! Great drum shop, great people!! Site to be launched soon.

A link to http://www.drumcirucit.com from your site is welcome :)

    Under construction at:
    drumshoponline.com

To be launched at soon at:
    http://www.drumcircuit.com.

I’m happy to be your first incoming link! See the new site’s link page.
