2006 / August 10th/ Why do you read Warpspire?

I’m not going to lie, this little old rag of a site has gotten more popular than I ever expected. As a result, I’ve had a bit of a hard time pinning down exactly what Warpspire should be. Sometimes I write about music, sometimes web development, and sometimes my own boring life.

So, a quick poll to all you lurkers out there: Why do you read this rag of a blog?

Do you enjoy my own little rants about my life? Or are they just noise that clogs up your feedreader? Do you even care about anything other than Hemingway? Would you be interested in something more of a particular subject? Let me have it, and I’ll try and fail spectacularly.

Similar focus in the world of web development, at least that’s the way it looks to me.

Without wanting to offend, I’m mainly here for Hemingway. :-)

I use Hemingway, but I don’t care if you talk about it or not :-P Talk about whatever you want, as long as it’s interesting. Too many people just repackage the same stuff without original content. Write about what you’re passionate about.

I’m sure I came here for Hemingway first, but I think I started poking around the list of 9rules sites and decided I liked it. I’m also a designer (and photographer and frustrated documentarian and…), and I dig the site. Despite what some people would have you believe, there’s a dearth of designers who can, you know, put words together coherently. When I find someone who’s competent at both, I tend to pay attention.

Because you sorta got me a job, and now I’m like Gomer Pyle in that episode of “The Andy Griffith Show” where — Shazam! — Andy saves Gomer’s life, so Gomer lurks around Andy’s house, cutting firewood, making breakfast, giving Opie a ride to school, etc. See, and it’s even worse because I work with you every day which means my obligation to you will never end, and you will fall asleep each night thinking MY GOD WHY DID I TELL HIM THEY WERE HIRING and just as you drift off you’ll snap awake because the phone will be ringing and it will be me asking if you want me to read you a bedtime story.

Andrew: Don’t worry about offending, man. I know there’s a lot of people that just come here for Hemingway :) I’m just trying to gauge my audience a bit.

Jason: haha, man you crack me up. A bit too much caffeine tonight, eh?

Your design uses at least 7 tones of grey. I like grey.

I’m here for the web development related content. You could skip the “music” category if you ask me. And put all efforts into design, usability, marketing, publishing etc.

The most decisive thing though - is that I enjoy your writing style. The way you communicate a subject - personal or not - is the most important reason that you’re on my feed list.

And like Bruce. I also enjoy grey tones.

That no nonsense approach to everything.

If the internet is up to shit, you say so. The key to “saying so” is you always have some substance behind what your saying… Not the lame old - “XXXX sucks. just because I say so.”

Theres not to many okes around the net that have an opinion based on something more than gut feel. ;-) Oh, and I dig stars.

Yeah Hemingway got me at first, but your knowledge proved a little more informative than most and your design is wicked clean.

I don’t read this rag of a site, sheesh. If I did though, it’d be because Kyle is cool and has interesting opinions on the various hot-topics of web development. Again, I don’t read the site, and Kyle is most definitely not cool.

I came here through the 9rules community website, and found your design attractive.
You had some interesting posts some time ago, and even though the last ones didn’t pick my interest, i’m sure there’s good posts coming… that’s why I keep warpspire in my feed list.

I originally came here for Hemingway, even though I’ve never used it.

I’m still here because I’m waiting for an announcement concerning the new PWM design.

I am a designer, primarily webdesign and backend development. I came here because I was googling around for a webdesign blog that talked about design, development, and marketing. After reading around I really enjoyed your tone of speaking and what you talked about.

I now use hemingway, after finding it on the site. Like everyone else said, it is brilliant. My only problem with it is there is no way to get to my seperate pages (away from the blog), or at least that I can find.

me: “Hi, my name is Josh…and I use Hemingway.”
    audience: “Hi, Josh!”

I guess I, like so many others, stumbled upon your site because of the Hemingway theme. And, like others still, I decided to stick around and read more because not only are your theme skills top-notch, so is your writing. The design of this site is superb, the writing is easy to read and coherent and the content is not too narrowly focused for non-webby people to read. Sure, it helps to have an interest in web-related technology, but dude, it’s all good either way.

Fantastic site, well played my friend, well played indeed.

    UUuuuummmm…… damned if I know :)

Because I’ve know Kyle for a couple of years now via http://www.webdesignforums.net (we’re both moderators there) and he keeps up to date with webdesign stuff, and I don’t.

BTW, I dislike Hemmingway, so there! :p
