2007 / April 26th/ Adobe open sources Flex, Joyent eats words
In case you haven’t heard yet, Adobe is announcing tonight that Flex will be open-sourced. This is some of the greatest news I’ve heard yet and proves that Adobe knows who it’s customers are, and what they want.
In related news, Joyent eats its own words after sitting on top of a high chair wagging fingers at the rest of the world. Sorry Joyent, I love ya guys, but Adobe’s won this battle. I’m not saying Slingshot isn’t good — it’s just that Apollo looks better. And Adobe looks better.
I can’t wait to see what Flex 3 brings. Hopefully a much improved CSS-based layout engine that allows for relative positioning and margins! (perhaps the CSS2 box model, minus CSS2’s padding approach). I know more than ever now that Flex is leading the path to the future of the web. Adobe is smart. Really smart.
