2007 / October 24th/ You know you wanna (work with me)

It looks like it’s just about that time again. Well actually — it’s just about always that time. We’re hiring. Specifically we’re looking for some front-end rockstars. Some people who know Javascript, HTML, CSS and all that jazz. We’re also looking for people from all disciplines — programmers, IA’s, designers, flash gurus, after effects lovers and pretty much everything between there and the sun.

I’ve found it’s remarkably hard to find good front-end developers, and so that’s why I’m posting this here.

Why come work for us?

Why would you come work for us? Well, our website sucks at telling you why — so I’ll spend a couple of minutes explaining. I wanted to come up with a good reference as to why you should when people ask me in the future.

The central coast is awesome

Our main office is in San Luis Obispo, CA — the heart of the central coast. If you’ve ever wondered what happens when implant a college town 10 minutes from the beach with the most beautiful hills and weather in the world — this is it.

A San Luis Obispo sunset

We’ve also got a big office in downtown San Jose if San Luis isn’t your cup of tea — but I’d seriously look at SLO as an option.

We Twitter

Yeah, we twit. Or a few of us do. But it makes office life just a little bit more interesting. How to sum it up? I think this tweet does a good job.

Screw faceball, it’s all about killing someone

Flickr invented faceball. We prefer a more… intense approach. I think the current name is “squishy ball throwy game of death.” Hold on to your coffee tight.

Allergy Remixes

What do you get when you have allergies at our work? Jason found out today:

Tuesday I was dripping and sneezing like a crazy man. When every sneeze prompted five instant messages from coworkers saying things like STOP IT or GODDAMN YOU SCARED MY DOG, and when I noticed that A. was trying to record my sneezes (for what nefarious purpose I have no idea), I figured it was time to go, so I spent the rest of the day working from home and watching Battlestar Galactica.

What shows up in our email box a few hours later? Jason Gurley - My Allergy is what shows up.

We work on some seriously cool shit

I’m not going to lie: we are an agency. You’re gonna see inefficiencies, stupid decisions forced by marketing and legal, and all kinds of WTF? moments. But on the opposite site we work on the coolest stuff you’ll ever work on. Pretty much everything’s under NDA — but a very select few of our clients can be seen in our work section.

Sample work we’ve done for R.I.M.

Outside of that — we work on sites that reach hundreds of millions of people around the world. It doesn’t stop there either — we get to work on software that’s distributed on millions of computers. We work with global brands that change our culture.

What should I know?

We’re looking for a few different positions, but if you’ve got a good knowledge of HTML, CSS and the web you should give it a shot.

Still interested?

Still interested? Feel free to hit me up (kneath [at] gmail.com) or just get in touch with our recruiter Jon Ward (jward [at] webassociates.com).

Jason had some gnarly, extremely loud crazy man sneezes today.

That is true: you’d have to work with Chris Rhee. He’s sort of this female-repellent. Poor kid.

How good is the SEO on your blog? I hope my name doesn’t get linked to searches of “female-repellent”.

And the ladies in QA must like me because I make their job so so easy.

I wouldn’t say we’re adverse to world-wide employees (in fact, we’ve hired a few people from out of country). You do need to have good English and be willing to move to the West Coast though ;)

As a Cal Poly alumn (GrC ‘98), the draw of moving back to SLO is intensely strong. The small town feel is real and committed to remain by local residents. The youthful-ness provided by an eternal population of 18 to 23-year olds brings plenty of interest. The location offers remoteness from the “real world” (aka SF and LA) and some of the best weather in the country while not really being that far removed. Knowing that I could develop kick-ass sites while working on Higuera is so damn appealing.

Alas, I’m now committed to the San Francisco Area as a home owner in the east-bay and an employee of one of the best User Experience companies on the planet (Adaptive Path).
